About:

Young at ‘Art is an award winning programme, run by Cool it Art, minimising isolation and loneliness in Adults through creativity.

The project was set up in 2016 in partnership with VGERTA (Vauxhall Gardens Residents and Tenants Association) and trialled in a sheltered housing block on the estate for the over 50s.

Building on the taster sessions delivered at Bland & Burchell, the programme grew to support Adults of all ages from across Lambeth, held at the Carmelita Centre in Vauxhall, where it ran till 2023. The project relocated down the road at Wheatsheaf Community Hall, off South Lambeth Road, later in 2023. Our current programme is Lottery funded till February 2028, we are at the end of our first year of the three year programme, the exhibition is a look back at all that we have explored over this year’s sessions.

Over the years we have worked with different organisations to support their users; Lambeth Walk Day Centre for Adults with Special & Complex Needs, Age UK Lambeth, Mental Health and Homeless Charities as well as the NHS. We work closely with the local community too, focusing predominantly on Lambeth residents - but all are welcome!

Coming up to our 10th Anniversary since Young at ‘Art started; we have delivered 290 sessions, 7 trips and had 2211 attendances since the programmes inception, the exhibition celebrates the people taking part and the artworks created.

The sessions are open to all - the focus being fostering connections through creativity, from beginners to more established artists - everyone gets something out of the programme.

Cool it Art:

We are a Social Enterprise, founded in 2013, providing free creative opportunities for communities; predominantly in Lambeth. From Pop-up Art Schools to Murals, Animations to Annual Art programmes; our core projects are Young at ‘Art and Cool it Art Kids at VGCC. We have delivered 134 projects since June 2013 in Lambeth, London and the South of England engaging people in free creative sessions. We also create free teaching packs for families, of which there are 400 online - more recently we have started creating guides inspired by our classes for adults; making creativity accessible to an even broader audience.
