Tempolumen Rhythmos: The Second Chapter of Symphōnia
Tempolumen Rhythmos is the second chapter of the Symphōnia project, a series of exhibitions initiated by curator Zhang Hailun. It follows the inaugural exhibition Prelude in Asylum, which unfolded in a chapel imbued with the aesthetics of ruins, where its site-specific history, cultural heritage, and concept were woven into the curatorial narrative, becoming an essential strand in the meaning of the project itself. While the prelude invoked art as a force of healing in turbulent times, this new exhibition, Tempolumen Rhythmos, points toward awareness—deconstructing our cognition, questioning how it is formed, how awareness emerges, and how our understanding of truth and world is continually reshaped.
Tempolumen Rhythmos brings together a group of ambitious and exceptionally talented artists working across diverse media. This focus — offering a platform where new ideas and gifted voices can emerge through artistic projects — is central to Symphōnia. By carrying these ideas into the public sphere, into the art world, and into cross-disciplinary dialogue, the project seeks deeper interactions with life, society, and the world, cultivating the conditions for art’s most forward-looking impact. Curator Zhang Hailun is committed to exploring the connections between Eastern and Western philosophy within contemporary art, and to working with artists to co-create projects that respond to the urgencies of our time. On this journey, Symphōnia aspires to step into new movements in concert with like-minded artists, organisations, and institutions.
With the advance of technology, humanity itself, our cognition, and our relationship to the world are being continually reshaped. Art mirrors this condition—it is a condensation of life, where philosophy, perception, and spirituality converge to reflect and refract how our relation to the world is reimagined. In time, art carries its own tracks, variations, and rhythms, like a symphony unfolding. Within this movement, Tempolumen Rhythmos gathers artists who are thinkers, experimenters, activists, and visionaries, whose practices extend from painting, sculpture, and installation to computer-based works, AI, and sound—exploring not only the entanglements of art, society and environment, but also reconfiguring the relationships between exhibitions, gallery spaces, and the broader art system.
